crank position sensor o-ring

Anyone know the size of the o-ring for the crank position sensor on a 05 Road Glide or equivalent.

Harley in their infinite wisdom says to change the o-ring when removing the sensor so I did but come to find out they don't sell a replacement. They expect one to buy the whole sensor. What a crock.

Thanks.

I have never replaced my o-ring on that sensor.........and I've had it out about 15 times...........no leaks at all.

Just another HD way to drain the wallet a bit more.

darkknight is an unknown quantity at this point
I pull my sensor out every time I change the oil due to clearance issues with my oil cooler and the oil filter. Never have changed the O- ring. As far as not having a replacement at the Dealer, sounds fishy. My wifes 06 XLL had a split o-ring which was discovered on the maiden voyage home and they were able to give me a replacement o-ring by itself. You might check with another dealership, but I think the position sensors are the same size across all the bikes. so they should be able to get you one.

o-rings come in standard sizes. I can't believe that you don't have a full service hardware store close to you. Many old time full service automotive/equipment supply houses have a full line of then.

Thanks GPO03FatBoy,

I would have re-used the old one however I tossed it when I was doing the disassembly. Looking through my parts book it does not call out an o-ring, but I think that the dealer could have taken a bit more initiative and matched one up for me. I could have walked to the service area and asked there but the two goobers behind the counter just pissed me off so I left without what I needed, like to do most of the time.

Thanks, again.

That was the a$$hole and the assistant a$$hole. They probably own the place. They probably have a pic of the mythical Harley Gawd, Willie Davidson, wearing his raspberry beret, smiling down on you while you reach for your wallet.

I looked up the part number above in my parts manual and it is the o-ring that goes with the speed sensor. Odd how they sell the o-ring for the speed sensor and not the CPS.

I love this place.

For those of you that have to pull the crankshaft position sensor (because of clearence problems) everytime you change your oil filter you need to get an S&S filter, part# 31-4104 for twin cams. The od is 1/8" less and it clears the sensor, no problem.

Cool 05 ultra classic 88

I just replace the crank position sensor to stop backfiring and ruff idle but now it sounds like its running on one cylinder and still won't idle, but no back firing now. I am going to check the plug wires and coil but I am open to suggestions.
I have stage one air filter , true duals and 2" baffle slip ons with a power commander 3.

Thanks
