Optimum Quench..

and how to set it up??

Can a builder help a shade tree (me) mechanic understand how to set up quench, and what would be optimum for 9.8-1 static.

The motor is
95 FT
37b cams
030 gasket.
BigBoyz heads

The heads were cc'd, milled and of course ported. I can probably get the cc of the chambers if needed to set the optimum quench. I'm pretty sure that I would need the deck height to set quench as well.

While doing a little reading it seems that quench is an important step that us home brew builders may be over looking when bolting this stuff together.

Thanks,

Springer did a great job on that post. We often take the compression up to 10.5:1 with that quench and that cam with our heads with out issues.

Good post Springer and thanks for the link to that TX. Is 030-035 optimum quench?

It's time to measure deck height to confirm, using 030 head gasket. If deck height +, than this could lead to an engine more prone to detonation, correct?

I did get a tune finally that I thought had rid me of detonation or pre-ignition, but I find that it is still there under certain conditions. I'm thinking if quench is off enough, it'll be harder to tune that out.
