What could the tech have possibly screwed up ??

Recently had the 10k service done on my '05 Heritage (EFI). Rode the scoot into work yesterday. Wound up slammed in stop and go traffic on the way home (Northern Va. standard fare). Temps in the low 70's. The bike heated up real bad. LCD dipstick read above 260. Started running rough in 'preservation mode'.

While the bike was in the shop for th 10k, I had the dealer hang an HD oil cooler on the bike. Really wasn't expecting the bike to heat up at all in temps like this. I've ridden the bike in stop and go for two summers now. Never heated up like this... EVER!

Might the tech have messed up the 'map'? (I have the Stage I SE pipes and air cleaner.) Might the oil cooler thermostat be faulty? Man, I need some advice. Clearly the bike is going back into the shop.

Also, having read where some '05's had valve ring issues, would it be a good idea to bring this to their attention (warranty svc) as well?

Appreciate any feedback here ya'll. With some awesome Spring weather finally hitting the Mid-Adlantic, was really excited about riding into work on a reg basis again. Damn!

Cheers~!

"Wht could the tech have possible screwed up? "

Just about anything they touched.

I don't see why they would mess with the map for a oil cooler add on. Is it possible they just didn't put enough oil in? Have had mine overfilled and underfilled.

Some type of air pocket? When I put my cooler on, I read something about that when doing research. Not sure if real or not.

You said they mapped for pipes? That could do it.

Not 100% but if the t-stat was bad I would thinking the bike would run cold. Letting oil cool when its not hot. I think tstat stops oil from going into cooler. Not 100% on that.

Thanks for the feedback.
The oil level checks out. And the original 'map' for the Stage I was done over two years ago when I did initially did the work. Bike was running fine when I brought it in for the 10k.
The bike is also coughing and spitting a bit. May be a dumb question, but can the ECM lose the mapping were the battery disconnected during service?

Another vote for doing your own work. Following the general rule of going back to the last thing you did (in this case, the last thing the dealer did), I'd look at the oil cooler.

Could the cooler be installed incorrectly. Seen it before. Starves the engine of oil, if it oils at all. Don't ride it until you confirm it.
