I've got an 01 Fatboy I picked up last summer. One of the first things I did was change all the fluids, since you never know when you buy a used bike. Well I noticed this fall that when the bike is cold it takes a little more effort to shift from 1st to 2nd it's kind of sticky and takes a lot more effort than normal. As soon as I put a few miles on it and get it warmed up, it loosens up and shifts normally. I switched the tranny fluid from 20w50 to 85w/140 when I changed the fluids. Is this something I should worry about or am I good to go?
If you go to Amsoil, or even Harley's own synthetic, you can use the same oil in the engine, primary, and tranny. It is not nearly as thick as what you put in the tranny and it works fine.
