problems with 03 ultra

I have a new ultra with a 150 miles on the bike. After riding for several miles you can down at the rear of the motor. And the y pipe at the cyl. head is glowing red. Is that normal break in.

All I can say is that if it were my bike I'd be back to the shop with it. Sounds like you are running rich or have an air leak. One of the top dogs can maybe answer better.

Glowing red
You are running VERY lean and if you continue to ride you will most likely burn a piston or valve. Take it back and demand they fix it. Or keep the number for the tow truck in your wallet.
Good luck

NOT normal call the dealer and have them send a tow for it. DO not ride it.

I like red as a color, but I don't think it should be on your exhaust pipe! Quit riding the poor thing and make your stealer fix it.

Nothing on your bike should glow red, other than the brakelight! Get your bike to the dealer and tell them what is happening. It is far too lean and you WILL burn up valves, pistons, and rings.

It is a simple fix and costs nothing under warranty, but will cost you $$$ otherwise. If the dealer didn't notice this during P.D.I., I would ask what else they missed.

The bike is waaayyy lean. Time to reflash the ECM or check for intake leaks upstream of the cylinders. Keep trying shops until you find one that knows what is happening and can get the work done right.

Thumbs up Ummm.. well,

I've got an 03 FXD dude and like, umm it wasn't equipted with a lighter. I don't guess you kinda dogged the poor thing against manufaturers instructions, huh?
I think you prolly done fried a valve.
Like the rest said, get off the motorcycle and get it to the dealer. Do not drive it.

I may be late to the party, but I'd check the timing. If it's retarded too much you can super heat the exhaust and turn the pipes colors. This and lean conditions have similar symptoms. Use a timing light to be spot on. Static timing will not be as close due to backlash and such.

Not likely he's going to muck with the timing on an 03 Ultra but he could have a bad ECM flash . Seems way lean so that'd be my guess. A PC can hose things up but it'll only add fuel - and flood you out once in a while - not take away fuel. I think he'd get some codes and a CEL by now.
