Carburated Stage II

Last weekend I talked to my dealer about a stage II upgrade for my '03 DWG. He insisted that I needed everything listed in the P&A catalog, including adjustable pushrods and the Mikuni 42 (polished no less!). Since the heads are coming off, why do I need the pushrods? While I can believe the Mikuni might be nice, isn't a dynojetted CV perfectly acceptable? Since I already have V&H pipes and SE air cleaner, I'm thinking all I want is the 1550 kit, 203 cams and ignition.
All humble opinions will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

The adj. push rods are only a neccessity if you pop for the SE or other aftermarket heads that have been milled.

My CV worked well up to 90 hp with a stagVII thunderslide, so you should be fine with the cv.

203's will work with stock pushrods as the basecircle of the cam is the same as stock.

Sounds like your dealer wants to pimp a lot of stuff you don't need on you.

Stock rods will work up to a SE211 adj's are nice if you need to get into he cam compartment you will not have to remove rocker box.

The mic would make for a cripser throttle response but the Cv jetted correctly would work.

Ign look at twin tech or the dyna tec II the SE is nice but if the curve is not what you need you are stuck as the others have more than one curve you can try.

I would agree with 03FXDWG the dealer is trying to slide it in.

Thumbs up

Thanks to everyone for the input. I have heard the CV40 is good up to around a hundred hp. Mikuni can always be added later if needed. I looked at the Twin Tec ignition and downloaded their software to play with. Certainly looks good. www.daytona-twintec.com
Dealer said he would do the install for $1800, that includes 1550 kit, 203 cams, pushrods, Mikuni, SE ignition, SE air cleaner. That amounts to paying list price for the parts and labor is free. If I can get him to give me the same deal without the carb, air cleaner and pushrods we might have a deal.

Check into the price of having your cylinders bored. New cylinders are in the 200+ range most shops will bore yours for 100-125. Save some more cash HD push's the kits as it is easy for them but you don't need the kit. You need pistons, gasket kit ( cometic head gasket) and the cams plus bearings. The IGN module you can in stall your self. Depending on how you ride you may not even need the heavy diaphram for the clutch. Good luck

Good point on boring the cylinders, HDWRENCH. I'm running out of room to store any more take-off parts anyway. I've seen some other posts about people not upgrading the clutch diaphram spring with stage II. It does come with both the stage I and II kits for EFI models though. It's cheap, so maybe it would be worth considering.
