Idle question

I have a fuel injected 01 RG and when i shut the bike off for as little as five minutes the idle jumps up to 1,200 RPM until i ride a little then it drops back down.
The outside temperature around 60 degrees, is that normal for it to be that sensitive or is there something wrong.
Thanks.

Not normal. I would make sure that there is no mechanical binding in the throttle linkage etc. Make sure the idle speed lever is resting against the warm idle set screw with the throttle disengaged. There are other possible causes of this..ie electrical..but make sure there are mechanical issues first.

The MM efi system on your bike is famous for losing the cold and hot idle settings. I'd suspect they need to be reset. I also believe the HD service manual leaves a little to be desired in doing that.

Maybe someone will jump in with the best way to do or do a search for it.

This bike has a Delfy (sp) in it.
It takes three four minutes for the idle to drop back down even when hot, but only after i shut it off. When riding it goes to idle every time i stop.
I set the idle when it was full hot then shut it off and pulled the 5 and 15 fuses for 15 minutes. Maybe i didn`t leave the fuses out long enough, in the how too section it said to leave them out at least 30 min.

My mistake, it has two lines coming out of the tank so i was told it is a MM, the box under the left side panel says Delphi on it that`s what threw me.

Additionally, you need to pull the fuse as you shut the bike down, A tech passed that tip onto me and it seems to work.

Another issue with the idle is the screws will vibrate out. Put a bit of loktite or fingernail polish on them when you reset the idle.

One other thing you could check, temp sensor. If that is failing it could cause problems with idle as well.

Edit: As Ed said, do a search. This has been discussed ad naseum and there is a lot of good info here, you just need to find it.

Oh you want simple! Why didn't you say so? Do a search, there are a few threads on converting from MM EFI to carb!

Oh ya that would be simple, and expensive.
I found the problem, it was the fast idle actuator, it wouldn`t let it drop down and was erratic.
Backed the screw out all the way so it not functional now it idles. Will prob replace it eventually because fast idle is nice in cold weather.
Thanks for the help.

You could do the carb swap for around $400, and you will have a "new" bike... It is a WORLD of difference.

I would do a Gerolamy Throttle Body before doing a carb.

That actuator looks like it may be hard to get too the bottom screw to remove it?
