transmission leak

The bike is a 1999 California Motorcycle Company softail custom with a 5 speed transmission. I have had a nagging oil leak that appears to be coming out of the clutch cable hole area. Just this past weekend, I replaced that cable O-ring. It did not appear to be faulty, but it got changed anyway. Well, the leak persists.

I checked the vent line. It appears to be in good shape. It is a rubber hose attached to a 90 degree nipple on the top cover on the left side. The hose is not pinched.

I am at a loss. Could the cable itself be leaking? Could it be leaking around the connector and require replacing?

Any thoughts and experiences are much appreciated.

Thanks.

Just looking at the vent tube does nothing pull the top cover and blow air through it. How much fluid do you have in it? Should be 20-24oz.

While you're in there, pull the side cover (where the clutch cable screws into) and check for cross-threading or cracks.

vent hose

Well, the vent hose and the pipe nipple are not plugged. I guess I will pop the cover off and look for cracks. I wonder what the chances are that the cable itself is leaking?

Is this a left or right side drive bike? In other words is the drive belt to the rear tire on the left or right side?
