Noisy Primary Chain Fixed

Whenever I am able to fix something I like to pass it on. My 2012 EG Classic had a noisy primary chain like it had slack in it. Here is what worked to tighten it up. Run up pretty hard to about 30 and then put on the brakes until the bike almost stalls - do this three times. Noise is gone, I can hear my lifters again, and my pipes. Actually I'm not sure it wasn't fixed on the first run up but I did it three times anyway.

right on. are your lifters loud, with a tapping sound? just did a 103 upgrade on a friends 96 and now there is tapping coming from his lifters. i didnt think it was right so before he took off to break it in i made him take it to a local indy and listen. they said the newer bikes have lifter noise and it was normal especially when changing the 96 to a 103. his is a 07 street glide. my 06 95 i build doesnt have lifter noise so it just didnt seem right to me.

I thought the primary chain noise was lifter noise at first. I only have 900 miles on this bike so I was still sorting out noises. The lifter noise on the 103 is a little different than on my 06 EG, doesn't seem to be quite as loud.

Did the lifters get changed during the 103 upgrade? Unless the bike has pretty low mileage (under 10k) then most techs recommend they be changed.

Coach
My 2009 FLHX just started making a new noise that sounds like valve train noise on the front cylinder. The bike only has 13,000 miles on it. It sounds like you are onto something. I will try the fix you mentioned in your first post.

Thanks !
