DR_DEUCE wants to know Dino or Syn?
Main shaft seals>>TOOLS???...advice??

I have a small leak on left side of trans, and I believe I need to change the seals on mainshaft behind the drive pulley. I think there are 3 or 4, plus a shifter seal, plus a sleeve bushing as I recall in the digaram. Do I need any specialty tools, or can some be adapted or modified for this job?
2002 Dyna Wide Glide.
Would there be anything else I could do in that area since the inner primary will be off?
THANKS!!!

Somewhere on the www a guy posted pics of the procedure for inner primary R&R. There are lots of threads on this.
As stated SM, George's Garage, as well as a Dremel w/ cutoff wheels, RTV and you can use right size sockets to install seals. Check the starter shaft bushings in the primary for scoring.
You likely won't know if you need to cut off the inner primary bearing race until after you look at it. There is info posted on here or other sites that will give you ideas on how to remove the inner race by cutting into it if the bearing race has walked and you can't fit the bearing race removal tool into the gap.

Likely the leak is not the main shaft seal but is the smaller shift shaft or starter seals. Personal choice, but I would only replace what is actually worn or leaking. You will be able to tell once you open it up.

I disagree. It could be any or all of the seals, and once you are that deep, you should replace everything in there.

Shift shaft seal
Starter Jackshaft seal
Main Drive Gear seal, pulley spacer and quad seal
Mainshaft/Main Drive Gear seal
Inner Primary seal

Special tools needed:
Service Manual
Socket to remove pulley nut
Puller for Mainshaft bearing
Locking tool for primary

Put them all in while you are that deep in it...
