SE 6-spd tranny questions

I'm considering getting the SE 6-spd tranny (33102-03A) for my ride for X-Mas. I like that it has the same gear ratio's as the stock tranny and the sixth gear is a "true OD".

I have a couple questions before I pull the trigger.

1) The kit says it "Requires separate purchase of appropriate Side Cover Release Kit" (38752-04). Its a chrome side cover. I'm not a fan of chrome (hence my choice in rides). Can I use the stock side cover or is there a wrinkle black side cover available? Maybe a side cover from an '07+ Night Train?
2) Is the tranny the same tranny used in '07 and up bikes? If so, does it have the same 5th gear noise issues I've read about occurring on '07 and up bikes?
3) '06 stock trannies come with an easy pull ramp setup. Will installing this tranny require removing this ramp setup with a not-so-easy pull ramp setup?
4) The kit requires modification to the stock tranny case. How extensive is the modification? I read the install instructions from the HD web site and its not really clear about how much of a mod it is. It mentions use of a drill and a grinder.
5) Are there any gotcha's with this kit I should be concerned with?

Thanks in advance.

Ok.. first you will love the gear box... I have been very happy since I did the switch..
No you do need to purchase the side cover that it says is required.. and no the later six speed boxes are different in shape..
The ramp is not changed to the easy pull in the new door..
The modification is simple and easy to figure out once you see it.
I found no gotcha's on the install..
no noise from the gear box like the 07's are having.. doesnt mean it cant happen though..
buy the side cover and have it powdercoated before you install it...

hope this helps..

So your saying I'll lose the easy pull ramps? That is almost a deal breaker for me.

Can anybody confirm this? Can I use the ramps that came stock with the bike or do I have to use the ones that come with the kit?

Thanks alot...

When I installed mine I purchased an easy pull ball and ramp to install at the same time. When I opened the trans kit it had a ball and ramp with the same part number as the one I purchased separately. I installed the one from the kit and returned the other.
