VPC question
I'm thinking about getting a VPC setup for my '05 Ultra, but I have a couple of questions first.
Which model is the right one for my bike?
Do I need a derby cover spacer with my HD Skull derby cover?
Cheapest place to get it?
Anyone have one for sale used?
I already have the SE diaphragm spring installed, but I still think I'm getting a slight amount of slippage when hitting it hard.
Thanks,
Steve

I'm running the old VP83T which was replaced with the VP84T on top of a SE spring, I've never had it slip yet even loaded down with the OL on a trip and not babying it. I made 104/100 with pretty much all the TQ is in by 2500 rpm. Not sure how the Skull cover clears, I'm running a LTR cover which I think should be the same.

Looks like I'll need a 1/4" spacer according to that link. I had no idea the covers were that different from one to another........but I guess.
I'm not really looking to reduce lever pull, I'm looking for a strong engagement of the clutch with no slippage at all.
Any recommendation on which model number would be best? 92T has the lowest reduction in lever pull, so does that mean it puts the most pressure on the clutch?

Big fan here of VPC's. Have used and will still use many.
But I always factor in the foundation condition of the item or system that's getting the attention.
Not sure of the mileage on your clutch but you might want to consider a Energy One 10 plate kit first. Reasonable cost. Great quality.
Do this along with your SE spring and with the recommended B&M T/S fluid (or at least a type F ATF) and I'll venture to say your slippage will cease.

Yep - 92T locks tightest and has lowest amount of pressure reduction.
I ran the VP83 and SE spring for several years with the stock clutch and replaced the clutch last summer. Thought it was gone, but once inside, realized it only needed adjustment. Replaced it anyway. VPC83T, SE spring and OEM clutch held up well to several trips, more than 100 drag strip passes and other hard launches.
After I had my motor built, I had some slippage. Installed the VPC - no more slippage. I also installed the newer clutch ramps for an even easier lever - and like it a lot. However, if you think you might go bigger at some poiint, I'd recommend you go with the 92T now.

I agree with Herko. I'm runnin the old 83t with SE spring and energy one plates in my 117 with no slippage at all.
Great combo!
Good luck,
Dave

Is it normal to hear the VPC when starting off, it sounds like they are hitting something but I even installed the 1/2 inch spacer.

I've never heard a thing from mine. Did you cut the gasket for clearance or switch to an o-ring.

some of them rattle a little. Mine does a little and has for the last 50,000 miles. it is just the counter weights moving. If you have one in your hand (VPC) you will see what I mean about the weights rattling a bit. The Pingle vendor in Sturgis had a cool clear clutch cover and you could actually see the movement.

So it sounds like the 84T with my SE spring is the combo to go with.
I would like to go bigger in the future, but I don't have the $$ to do it.........so I really don't think it's ever going to happen.
Why does the HD Skull derby cover require a spacer, while others including the stock one doesn't?
I like the idea of the clear cover..........anyone have a link for it? I'm going to have to look into that, to see the mechanicals working is very cool.

I found the VPC 84T for $219.95 from Eastern Performance with free shipping..........that is by far the cheapest I've seen.
And I'm going to skip the clear derby cover.........damn thing costs as much as the VPC does...........LOL
