Which shifter pawl? : V-Twin Forum: Harley Davidson Forums

Hi all. Shifter shaft lever splines were worn out. I thought it was just the lever, but closer inspection revealed that the splines on the shifter shaft are worn down a bit too.

1996 FXDS, 40K miles, not far from stock. Not a high hp scoot by any measure.

Question is, which replacement? Factory, Baker, Sputhe, Jims? I don't plan on replacing the shift drum unless I find a problem with it, just the shifter pawl. First time into one of theses beasts.

I replaced my original shifter shaft at about 70,000 miles due to worn out splines, used an OEM part, no problems since.

Thanks Dan~. No complaints with the original, I was just curious to see if the aftermarket offered anything that made a substantial difference. I'll probably stick with stock.
