Baker High Torque Primary Bearing
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Plan on a 107 this winter, and while there's not enough hp on this to really create problems on the pb, race walk could still be an issue. Since I'll be freshening up things anyway I thought of using the Baker high torque bearing and seal kit. Sounds good initially ,but since the oem race is removed the possibilty, should this bearing go for a crap, there is risk of scoring up the primary shaft. Second problem is the new seal rides directly on the primary shaft and over time could cut a groove in it reducing it's ability to seal. Knowing this, is it worth swapping or stay oem and hope the race stays put. Thoughts?

I have used the Baker product with great results in several bikes now. No worries from me, they work as advertised. If you are worried about all that, look into the S+S inner race. Has a lip on it to prevent it from walking in.

Sounds good. I guess for that one in a million fluke where the bearing could seize and guall the shaft the stock race could be stuck back on to save it. I guess the Baker bearing is on my list.

H-D used the same sealed type bearing and seal from 1965 up to 1990's when the bearing and sleeve type came about. Not many ever fail we install about 30 to 35 sealed type bearings kit a year for the past 5 or 6 yrs as for the seal putting a grove in the heat treated main shaft I've never seen that, for the money the baker bearing kit is well worth it

Is this bearing sealed or just shielded?

Never mind. I blew up a pic and see it's a shielded bearing, not sealed.
