Which clutch pack?
Hey
So I've managed to warp two of my clutch plates. So I'm in the market for a new clutch pack, but I have no clue which one to get. I'm not looking for a full clutch rebuild like a Primo clutch or a VPC or anything like that. I don't have the $$$ for something like that. I just looking to replace the clutch pack.
I have an SE Clutch Spring in along with my Stage-II 95" kit and it works just fine and the clutch lever pull is just fine. I tend to use the clutch alot, playing in the friction zone's "Gray Area", especially during low speed maneuvers and when down shifting. I'm also not planning on doing any major engine mods any time soon. I don't do burn outs or drag race from stop light to stop light.
So, what clutch pack should I get? Should I go stock, HD SE or third party? I've read about Barnett's Carbon Fiber and Kevlar packs, but I'm not sure if they are overkill or not. Whats the difference between Kevlar and Carbon Fiber and HD's offerings? I've heard that the Kevlar plates tend to expand when they get hot, which is something I don't want.
Thanks in advance...

love the barnett kevlar.
something Dog 155 told me when I was looking at the kevlar and wondered the same as you. The Kevlar releases very quick at rpms when shifting. I found this to be true also.JMO

Could you explain what you mean by "releases very quick at rpms". Thanks...

The second you start to pull on the clutch it releases the response is very quick.

You might get by with replacing the warped disks. I did that once, got some left overs from the dealer's collection of take off parts.

I considered that, but while I'm in there I might as well replace them all. I've got 45k miles on the clock, so if i replaces a couple plates with new ones, I'll have to dive back in there again relatively soon to replace the old ones once they wear out. I figured that while I was in there I should consider upgraded plates. Problem is what plates to use. Thanks.

Thanks. But that sounds like something I don't really want. I ride with the school that plays in the friction zone's gray area when doing low speed maneuvers etc (feather the clutch lever with constant, medium RPM's to control speed). I don't want the clutch to act like an on/off switch. However, what you describe may have more to do with the clutch adjustment then the clutch plates themselves. But I'm no expert by any means.

I went with Energy One and ordered direct from them. Something around $110 and I got the extra plate version. Outstanding.
If you go with the same clutch, you back the adjustment nut out only 1/4 turn rather than 1/2 - 3/4.

I have installed i think 4 Barnett's kevlar extra plate kits in customers bikes now. They are nice! Run them with ATf fluid and its shift like butter and hold a bunch of power with out a problem. I havent noticed what stroker was saying, but more crisp for sure. Its a change you get used to quicly. The Rivera and the Bakers all have short short friction zones.
The Barnett's can be made to slip just like stock if doing competitive riding. Might just take another adjustment like fx said.

Thanks for all the replies. So what is the difference, pros/cons, between Kevlar
& Carbon Fiber. There has to be some kind of difference, advantages/disadvantages between Kevlar and Carbon Fiber or Barnett wouldn't make both. What about the HD's SE clutch pack? What is it made of? Thanks...
