Chroming trans side cover

I want to chrome the trans side cover on my '07 SG. Can I take it off without having to go in from the primary side? Can I take off the clutch release cover and loosen the two nuts on the mainshaft and countershaft and remove it that way? Thanks.

To remove the right side transmission cover (trap door) you must remove the entire primary side, then remove the right side cover which will still have the mainshaft and countershaft attached to it, then you can remove the shafts.

You cannot simply remove the right cover.

I am assuming that is a 6 speed tranny set up. I didn't know they changed that in 07. That sounds like a bitch to do.

Chroming/Replacing trans side cover (trans door, trap door, bearing housing)

On my 93 Wide Glide I was able to use JIMS Transmission 5-Speed Bearing Housing Remover and Installer to remove my old trap door and replace it with a chrome billet part. The exahust mount hole on the trap door was stripped out (not all models use this ear/hole). To use this tool you have to remove the exhaust, trans side cover, the trans top cover and then the trap door mounting bolts. You then put the trans in two gears at once (through the top cover). Remove the bearing main and counter shaft retainers and lock nuts. Use the tool to pull off the old trap door. Put the new/chromed trap door on using the tool. And, button it up.

I realize that this was an old post. But, I have just run into this problem and thought I would share my solution. Price.....

I forgot about doing it this way...you can pull the trapdoor this way, but you should replace the bearings, because the removal process of pushing the shafts out of the bearings cross loads them.

The cost for the tool is one way or the other.... trap door from Georges a sponsor here or pully socket and main bearing race tool on the other... ME? I would be tempted to go thru the door with door puller but you will use the pulley and race remover more often then the other tool. I also saw a place on the big auction place who has tools too. Harley tools is the key word.
I just rebuilt my tranny with the help of Dan and others on here. You will get good info here and some real smart A$$ answers too
