Won't shift at high RPM's
Did the search and found some other similar problems, but on newer bikes. Wasn't really sure if it pertained to me and my bike, I'm new into the mechanics of my bike so please bear with me. I'm running a 1989 FXRS, 5-speed, some mods such as cam, rockers, lifters, etc... I don't think there was any trans. modifications other than a Rivera pro clutch. Last night I did a little beating on her. Guess I shouldn't have, hit the rev limiter once, at 6400 rpms, but the problem was when I got into third she wouldn't go any higher, no matter how hard I tried. I mean I had my foot buried under the shifter and couldn't get it to go into fourth. I was at about 60mph in third gear. The shifter was moving up, just wouldn't get into gear. Funny thing, maybe coincidence, I slowed down the bike with the clutch pulled in, RPMS dropped and I was able to shift fine. This happened a few times, I purposely tried more to see if it was just a fluke, or bad shifting on my part. Nada! Cruised home under normal conditions and never missed a beat, or shift. Is this a common problem or is there a problem internally. Any help would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks guys,
Pat
