trans seal

Get a dab on your finger and smell it, transmission lube has a distinctive smell due to additives to withstand shear pressures in trannys. If it's gear oil the tranny main seal is leaking, if not it could be from the primary.

Yeah, if you are running Syn3 Motor Oil in all 3 holes you're not going to smell any difference in the lube. If you clean up the primary you can perhaps see the source. If it is the primary cover gasket it is an easy fix, just get each screw back in the same hole it came from as the length varies. You may find that the drain plug is dripping, which is an easy fix as well with teflon tape.

the oil is on the cover of the belt.. not the cog side

not sure what the cog side is down there, but I think the cleaning approach and then taking it for a ride and finding the seep point if possible is the way to go. They say if they aint leakin they aint runnin...

It could be the shifter seal, the inner primary seal or the front sprocket came loose and now the bushing backed off the O-ring and it seeps through the shaft/sprocket splines, and out onto the sprocket, and slings off the lip onto the back of the inner primary, and onto the belt.

I agree: Clean it all down, and if possible, add some coloring to the trans fluid. (I have no clue as to what you'd use)

If you have the same fluid in all three holes, it's gonna be hard to tell what's leaking.

If it's a loose front sprocket and trans fluid is leaking, that'll leak with the engine off, sitting on the kickstand. Goos part is, you'll be replacing almost all the other seals getting to it, to tighten it.

Don't ask me how I know.......

My bike had spots of oil on the belt, it was coming from shift seal.
