Do I have problem?

Hi,

I'm a first time HD owner and about a month ago I purchased a 2000 DWG. When I was cleaning it up I noticed a thin film of oil on the bottom of the primary case, so I cleaned off and re-torqued all of the screws, plus I checked that the drain set screw was in correctly and at the correct dimension. After taking a few short rides I let the bike cool down and the film of oil is back. Is this normal, or do I have an issue?

Thanks for your help,
Hedghog

nah..... its sounds like a maintenance issue easily resolved with a new gasket. they're easy to replace and if u do , torque bolt like you would a car tire. alternate each bolt. once bolt is snug, give it a half turn- over tightening can cause oil to seep through

is the oil coming from the front side or does it keep coming out through the back side.. it is a 2000- if its oming from the backside of your primary your shifter gasket may be bad hard shifts can wear this out

it could be a shifter shaft seal. they tend to run down the back side of the primary.

got to find out where it is leaking then you can address it. clean real good and take it around and then check to see where it is coming from. few places can leak but make sure you find the main spot or you can be changing gaskets that are fine as oil likes to find a seem and run along it when it may be coming form lets say your stator plug on the crank or as mentioned below the shift shaft or a jack shaft or the o ring on the inner primary or the outer primary or inspection cover or derby cover or the thread on our primary drain needs tephlon tape so yeah the question was vague...
