Redline Shock Proof Drain Interval
I have a 2007 fxd with redline shock proof in the transmisson. When should I drain it 5k or 10k? 30k on bike been doing it every 5k. Seems a little overkill. Any thoughts?

hey, i've just started using Redline Shockproof Heavy in my tranny, 07 FXSTB, and I wold think that changing it every 5k is somewhat overkill, imo. 10k might be a little long, but I plan on just pulling my tranny dipstick after 6-7k and checking the color and consistency of it. if i feel that it is looking bad, i'll change it. if not, just leave it alone.
don't know if this helps, it's just my $.02

Shockproof
I too use Shockproof in my 07 Heritage. Let it go 15,000 and couldn't tell the difference after the change. It was the same pink pepto color coming out as going in. Next to nothing on the drain plug either.

No sense in using that expensive stuff if you're going to throw it out every 5 or 10 thou. 20 thou should be considered minimum. I think Red Line says it's good for 50 thou, though. Doesn't make any difference if it's in a Harley tranny or a car tranny, they're just gears after all.

I prefer to change all fluids once a year just as a preventative maintenance/cheap insurance sort of thing.
While on the subject of Redline Shockproof transmission oil, when switching from dino oil, did anyone else NOT notice any difference whatsoever in how easy or hard their bikes were to shift, find neutral, etc...???
I recently switched and the only thing I have felt so far, is $15 lighter, LOL

How often do your guys change the fluid in the read end of your cars?
Lemme guess, every five thou??????
I wouldn't be scared to let the bike tranny go twenty thou, but my analness makes me do it once per year.

Actually, I do change all the fluids in my truck once a year too...but only because they have drain plugs on everything that holds oil now (both axle housings, transfer case, transmission and oilpan)....plus, I am a bit anal myself...maybe why wife says I'm an a-hole sometimes, LOL
But back on track, I may remove the Pepto Bismol fluid and put something else in if I hear/read anymore bad about it, like above...

I like trying new stuff now and then myself (the anal thing?) LOL
The shockproof has been good to me for years. Ran Golden Spectrum with the first change on my most recent bike. No complaints other than the cost was around 25 - 30% higher than the shockproof (which is back in there now).
I think some mechanics likely don't like seein' the Shockproof in there when having to do a major repair. Takes like three flushings to get it all out of there (it clings so good). LOL Great for identifying leaks too! A pink drop dang sure ain't coming from your crankcase.
Lots of great oils out there to choose from. There is no one certain brand that blows them all away.
However, I'll likely be with the MTL in my primary for life, as smooth as it shifts for me, compared to the many other primary oils I have tried. Lots of close runners up though.
Sperimenting with some of George's Amsoil in my motor as of late. (Tol' ya I likes to speriment). LOL So far so good. Waiting to see how it holds up with a few thou more miles in the August heat. Expecting it to hold up well.

If you have any doubts get an analysis done. I run 5k on motor, 10k on tranny and primary. Amsoil http://www.blackstone-labs.com/trans..._analysis.html
