Evo sportster 4spd clutch problem

I have a 1989 sportster 883 that has 6k miles on a 1200 conversion.
I picked up cheap, was told the clutch plates were wore out... test rode it, yep shot.
I replaced the friction plates, and one burnt hard plate, and replaced the diaphragm spring. adjusted the clutch and fine tuned with the "new" clutch cable.
Problem;
Test ride shows the same problem exist, just not as bad. if you do a roll on it over powers the clutch, it's worse in second gear.

Is there a common problem with the clutch system, do the baskets need replacing often?
