well, its on a shovel, so its prolly a four-speed, unless he's installed one if the Baker 6into4 setups...

Ratchet Top

It's the best Tranny H-D ever made! The 4 speed ratchet top as the previous poster said. Depending on whether yours has the aluminum "ears" on the clutch end, it could be either electric, or kick start. If you don't have those ears, then it's kick only. Looking at it from the clutch side with the primary cover removed, if it has two aluminum bosses, each with two bolt holes (for an aluminum primary cover), then it will support electric start (FXE) if those aren't there, then it's kick only (FX).

Based on the picture, in the area under the chain where the "ears" would wrap around the swingarm pivot, it looks to be a kick start only. Hard to tell because the picture is dark in that area. If you use a flashlight and look in from the angle and side of the picture above, look for part of the transmission case wrapping around the end of the swingarm pivot.

If it is a FL type tranny it could have a speed drive. The speedo drive would be located behind the exhaust in your picture. Can't tell from the picture, you would have to look at it.

Here is an example with a speedo drive. It is the threaded 3/4" round piece coming out of the tranmission case at an angle on the right side.

That transmission has the casting directly below the chain in that picture. That indicates it can be used with electric start. In your case it is not currently setup for electric start. To install electric start would require replacing most, if not all, of the primary parts (assuming it doesn't have a ring gear or electric start inner primary) as well as adding all the electric start pieces. The oil tank would also require replacement. Another option would be an electric start belt drive primary.
