Touring drive belt-How long it lasts

I have a 1998 Roadking Police motorcycle with 68k on the odometer. To my knowlege the drive belt is the original one. When should this belt be changed? It looks fine with no missing cogs or any splits visible. Is it a big repair. Special tools????

Pretty big job but I wouldn't worry about it at that mileage, many have seen 100K+
I broke my first belt at 72K but it was taken out by rock damage.
Replacing the belt requires complete dis assembly and removal of the primary case and removing the swingarm.
If you are worried about a break down somewhere get the emergency drive belt kit.

...Check your tire pressure, that is more worthwhile than worrying about the belt.
Carry a AAA card, for towing.

Change it if it breaks. Otherwise, ride the piss out of it.

Keep it adjusted and check it for cracks, chips etc every 5,000 miles. Even with some light damage, Harley says you can keep on trucking with it.

It's a very tough belt and it will last a very long time. Replacing it requires removing the primary and swingarm, so do what man says - ride the sh_t out of it 'till you're forced to replace it.

My first belt threw teeth at about 60k or so, and when I changed it out, I didn't change the pulleys. BIG mistake. The second belt only lasted about 35k, and the indy who replaced it showed me the wearing on the pulley that resulted in belt damage and early failure.

Considering the cost of labor to replace the belt, costs for changing out the pulleys (especially the front one) while everything is apart is peanuts.

john, final drive belts are designed to last 100k. I have had customers with well over that still running original belts {alot of iron butters} just keep inspecting it and keep the tension right and it will last you.
