What do you guys think are the MUST HAVE CHANGES to your RG. I see most of us have done something to change our RG's from stock. What would be on your list of must have changes to make your RG work or perform for you.
My list of first things to do would be:
1. New High-Flow Air Cleaner
2. New exhaust pipes/mufflers
3. HD download or lieu therof #4 below
4. EFI device (Race Tuner, Power Commander or the like).
At the very least I think I would need this on any RG. What do you guys think? What is on your list of must haves?

I've done all of those and one thing that I really like is the heat shields from Kuryakyn that I put on. They keep a lot of heat from coming up on your thighs from that cross-over pipe. If I change my exhaust to a 2-1 like I'm thinking about, I probably won't need them anymore.

I rode with a guy last summer that had some of those, they were clear and hardly noticeable. He said it kept the heat off of his legs big time. he was from Dallas and my guess was he had alot of stop and go city riding. I don't do that much stop and go stuff except in a parade or something but the last parade I did I pulled out because I thought my bike was getting too hot. These 103 motors get hot quick sitting still, even with the oil coolers.
Maybe I should check those out, not a bad idea.

The items you mention are pretty much must have for any new harley. I would say that new speakers if you have a pre 06, I don't know about the speakers with the new stereo. A tour pak is a fantastic addition for any bagger especially if you have an OL, they love the big backrest and you know they need to haul a ton of crap! I know it doesn't look as good with it, get the quick release and only use it when you are on a trip. If you have an OL, you'll probably want a passenger backrest if you don't run a tour pak. I think a clearview shield is a great idea even though I don't have one yet.
So, these are my additions to the list:
5. Upgraded speakers
6. Tour Pak (get a king, chopped is a poser)
7. Passenger backrest if you ride without tour-pak
8. Clearview windshield

I agree with the heat issue, there is another product called cool thighs. http://www.coolthighs.com/ I think the Kuryakyn ones are less obvious and would be the one I would get.
9. Heat guard
10. Forward Extended Rider Floorboards (moves them ahead 2")
11. Highway pegs
12. Engine guard covers for cold weather riding
btw, I have heard great things about the Hogtunes speakers http://www.hogtunes.com/

I forgot! The very first thing I did!
13. Remove the rear shift arm, I just can't get used to them, I guess I will always be a toe shifter.

How do you like those engine guard covers? I've been thinking about getting a pair.

I bought mine on ebay from a fellow in Eastern Canada. Do a search on this auction # 4604693926
I like them, they are pretty easy to install. I saw another set by Talisman Leather that are verry nice looking and have nice big pockets on the rider side.

What I did on mine is remove the peg from the rear arm not the whole arm. That way I have the room on the floor boards and can still heel shift. Sounds like you would have problem heel shifting but you don't. I have the chrome HD slotted shifter arms so maybe that helps becasue they are a little wider than the stock ones.

Great Thread!!!
Glad to see a RG owners thread!! Attached is a pic of my 2004 Road Glide. It is lowered front and back, Stage II build.
After owning this bike I am a Road Glider for life. I like the fact that it is completely different than anything else on the road, you don't see many of them and the ride and handling for a big bike is unbeatable IMHO.
Looking forward to more topics!!!

Of all the MUST HAVE's listed, the only one I couldn't do without is the upgraded speakers (HogTunes). Also, XM radio and a rider backrest. I'll have to try to find those exhaust heat shields, the pipes are kind of hard on the rain suit pants, especially on the left side.
