I dunno, my 03 RG came with the rider backrest; the original owner had had it installed when he bought the bike. He never used it, and after trying it for a few hundred miles, I didn't like it either.
Seemed to me that I was sitting too straight up. It felt ok for the first 20 minutes or so, but then it was uncomfortable.
I checked the install, and there is no other way to attach it than what was done. It just doesn't work for me. So the seat is back in the box in it's plastic wrap, and I'll pass it on to whomever buys my bike when I'm done with it.

That's one of the "bonus'" with the Screamin Eagle Backrest. It has 3 different positions. When the Stealer installed it (free install because they did the engine), he put it in the "closest" position. I hated it because it pushed me to far forward. Took it off as soon as I got home, and never used it for a few weeks. One day I was tinkering and removed the seat - and low and behold - 3 different settings. Needless to say, I placed it in the furthest back (nearly 2"), and the fit was perfect. Can't say I'll ever remove it now - I never have since the day I found that last hole (that didn't sound too good :-))......Just my

It's probably not right for everyone. But, is yours an adjustable backrest? The one I have can be adjusted vertically, and also the front to back angle can be adjusted for a good fit. If a backrest wasn't adjustable, I could see how it might be too rigid and uncomfortable.

It's adjustable, and there are the three positions, but even so, I can't get it to "fit" me. I'm sure there's nothing wrong with it, I just can't get comfortable with it.

I have just posted on another thread that I have never had any "issue" with my HD adjustable rider's backrest, it works excellent in all directions, and in my opinion, this is one of the best HD products. No problem at all. Highly recommended.

The HD adjustable rider backrest is a POS. POS, POS, POS. The pad is fixed and doesn't swivel to match your back. It's twice a thick as the Mustang, eating up passenger space. Only the top 2" touches your back. POS. Exposed metal staples on the bottom of the pad that RUST. Does not adjust up and down cuz the adjustment is eaten up by the thickness of the seat. POS.
I've had both and the Mustang chews up the HD POS and spits it out.
And Harley doesn't make it either like most of their accessories.

To each, his/her own. I wouldn't like to discuss other people's taste(s), but me personally - I like the thickness of my HD rider's backrest, i.e. I would not like to have so skinny seat like Mustang is. But, like I said, to each, his/her own, so I respect other people's decision(s), as well as Krayven's.
Is HD rider's backrest expensive? Yes, it is, but I do not care as long as I am pleased to have it.
