Price Check
Greetings from Iraq,
I ordered a Electra Glide Classic and it will show up at a local dealer near my home and expect to pick it up when I go on R&R next month.
I asked the dealer for a quote to have the Tour-Pack quick release installed on the bike and I got a quote of 720.00 to do the job.
That was about double what I expected it would cost. Is this a fair price for a first class job?
It sounds like I am getting hosed.

Not sure on the price but if you can turn some basic hand tools, it isn't very hard to install. Stay safe over there.

It's really not a matter if I can do the job or not. I have 30 days to be home and see everybody and I don't want to waste a second.
I don't mind spending the money but I don't want to waste money either.
What is the cost of parts only?
Thank you,
Ken

Ken,
Here's what you need to purchase, it costs $330 if you buy it at your local dealer:
http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_US
It's Harley part #53303-07
If you order it online through Zanotti's you can get it shipped to your front door for about $280 (Zanotti's Motor Company is a Harley dealer and if you shop/order online with them, you get an automatic 20% discount on each part you buy (add shipping costs to order). Zanotti's address is here:
https://www.zanottimotor.com/
Sounds like your dealer wants $400 in labor to install something that will take you a few hours to do. Not complicated or difficult to do this, just follow the directions and it'll take you half-a-day.
I installed the detachable tour-pak rack kit on my '05 Ultra and there's no way I'd pay $720 to get it done. No way.

Thanks, it was borderline to even have this bike shipped to them. They have a reputation as a rip off and now I know why.
Thanks for taking the time and linking this for me. It will really make my time at home quality, I only have 30 days for the whole year.
Thanks,
Ken

kenc9, don't bother with the romovable hardware, you are never gonna take that tour pak off once you ride with it on a couple of times anyhow!

Price seems about right, if that included parts. HD gets $80/hr here for labor. But, just leave it on, I tried both ways and I just leave it on now. Great for storage of stuff. Helmet, jacket, papers, backpack for work, etc.

Dealers must love you and start drooling when they see you walk through the door . . .
