Purplehaze; I have contacted S&S about getting another set , they didn't even have the thing's in there archive's. They must not have put the older number's in there. My jug's were purchased back in 1981 according to the first owner . He had ordered them special . I am in the proccess of finding another set at a fair price . So far the price's I've been given are in the $500-$800 range . I'll post the info as soon as I find them, OK. I am going to increase the compression this spring up to 11:5 . This should be real interesting to see how it move's then . I can't what till summer so I can go up to Canadain drag strip and see what number's it will give me ,plus I'll get it on a dyno at the same time , so I'll have some number's to back-up my word's.

Hey another questions for Rdbug. You must be running external oil lines for that correct? I found Hyperformance online and contact Randy over there. He makes big Bore Cylinders for the Sporty but wants too much $1278. Thats not including any of the machining cost that I would need, I assume your's has already been set up. Basically the engine case bores need to be enlarged, the combustion chamber needs to be opened up to accept the larger cylinder spiguet and external oil lines need to be routed. You said you got some prices between $500-$800? Let me know where cause I may need to get new jugs anyway and stock ones will run about $350. If I can score the over bore ones I might as well do it!
Thanks
Mas

I've heard the "girl's bike" comment from a few people. And for the ones on the big twins that think they know what they are looking at, I just tell them it's an 883 that could. Some believe me, some look at me funny but at the end of the race they are asking me how I lifted the front wheel up through 3 gears.

Most of the "girls bike" crap I have heard so far has come from people who don't even own any bike. Girl's bike my @ss. A Sportster is as much Harley as anything in the line-up. There are as many women on Dynas and Softails, maybe more. The only major shortcoming for an XL is comfort on LONG trips. As a trade-off, you get a FUN, FAST, bike that is reliable as an anvil.
One of the problems in todays world is that too many people are more concerned with others than they are of themselves. Screw 'em

I'll have to admit, when I was looking for a Harley, I didn't consider the Sportster. I like the look and feel of a Fatboy. I'm not a large guy either...tipping the scales at 175 and 6 ft. I just thought the Fatboy was all I would ever need. I still hold a lot of love for the Fatboy...or even old Panheads. Price does have a lot of factor into it...that's why I got the 1200 Custom. I like it. Sure, I'd still like a "beefier" bike but the Sporty has plenty of HP after I've done some modifications and re-jetting as well as putting a big hole in the baffles. I think it's a great bike to learn on and get familiar with riding. I may eventually go to a Fatboy...but not for some time....I'm enjoying my Sporty till the cashcow comes home.

When I was looking for a new bike. I was looking at the softtails and sportsters. Well I bought a 02 sportster 1200 custom. I change the bars went from drag bars to a small set of buck horns, re-jetted the carb and put on a set of D&D slip on, and added more chrome. It runs grate and I love it. And yes it is a girl bike. They love to ride on it. IM getting ready to change the spokes on the front wheel. My spokes turned gray on me from having it down south for two months, Damn salt air I think did it. Going to put a set of stainless twisted and polished on next week. It should make the bike look better. If that's possible.

sporty
25 years ago I owned a hotrod ironhead Sporty, I now own a tc88 Road King.
Each bike is made for a different purpose.
The Sporty is a fine bike and a lot of fun running in the mountains or bar hopping. You can also add a lot of hp for a little $.
Plus I believe the Sportster has been around longer than any other bike model.
Ignore the ignorant people and enjoy your ride.

Well I'm bummed!
My local stealer had a dyno shoot out this weekend as a fundraiser for someone so the cost was $10. Not bad, just to see what your bike will do.
Now the bad part...
70.4 hp @ 60.4 ft lbs torque!
I thought for sure I had at least 80hp.
I guess the tinkering never ends?!?
