Cool cam specs

New to Harleys here. I was wondering, what are the cam specs on my stock 2001 XL1200c Sportster? You guys refer to cams by name, or part number or sometimes lift; on musclecar sites people talk about them by duration, lift and lobe separation angle as well as lift. Is it true Harleys run super tight LSAs because the carb is practically on top of the intake port? How would a Harley run with a divided long runner intake and a wide LSA? Wide LSAs are supposed to give a better idle as well as allow the engine to be still pulling at the redline at the price of possibly reduced peak horsepower; that is, in a conventional pushrod V8. I was shocked to see the Harley is a hemi head design; didn't know until I saw one at my mechanic. How many aftermarket heads are made for my 1200?

XL motors have a set up all their own LSA and other car cam specs do not have a play car cams do - sure if you understand car cam specs that way its a good question but its an odd one once you understand what happens - the flywheel pinion shaft ( on the right side of the motor has one of the cam setting timing marks ) that unlike car cams has nothing to do with TDC < i know what -- all 4 cams Yep it has 4 cams are timed to one another and cant be massaged to any other install location other than what is on the timing marks , because they are - the lobes directly conected to the gears all with one hash mark -- i know its like what who does that -Harley - anyway - cam changing is pricy and if you are not picking the right one its all for nothing - harley motors any of them ( EVO desgin ) -- likes duration and lift like a 10 second drag car motor for street driving 240 / 250 something duration .550 / .600 lift and a 108 or 110 LSA -- a must today is a 150 / 160 lb on the seat - B hive spring i have never seen anything written that is a good guide but harleys like bigger cams and compression to a point - think like a 327 SBC in a shoe box nova with a glide and 456 gears -- hope that helps -- jz
