sportster cam position sensor removal and can gear install

My brother in law removed his cam cover on his 2003 sportster to get powder coated and we're not sure how to remove the cam position sensor without cutting it. Does it disconnect somewhere? Thanks

I guess it is the crank position sensor. It routes through the cover, and not sure how it disconnects.

Thank you!
