Question 2008 XL Hot Head

I am wondering if I put a high flow air cleaner, fuel management system and open up the exhaust. Will this bring down the engine temperatures on a 2008 (sportster motor)Thunder mountain custom. Its a drop seat style frame and your leg is right over and almost touching the rear rocker box. Is this due to the engine being lean from the factory for emissions? If a fuel management device is needed what is recommended?

I would think it would run too lean with the mods. It allows more air but not more fuel. Fuel cools the combustion chamber just before ignition. More fuel, the lower combustion chamber temp. Therefore you will need to re map.

Thank you for the response and the internal combustion lesson. I think you must have skipped the first sentence of my first post. Were it said FUEL MANAGMENT SYSTEM.

Wink Absolutely!

If you use a good fuel management system and have it PROPERLY tuned than you absolutely can be running cooler temperatures! Let your tuner know what you are looking for and if he/she is competent then they should be able to give you a respectable balance of your mtc's NEEDS!!

I put a race tuner on it and it made a world of difference. Thank you for your response.
