Sportster engine

I have an opportunity to buy a wrecked 2004 sportster, my question is can I put this engine in any other harley frame other than another sportster?
thanks,
AD1

no other harley frames will except the sportster engine except for a sportser frame, I have seen sevrel aftermarket custom frames for sporty engines and you can build some mean machines,

Not another Harley frame. What a lot of guys do is buy used or wrecked sportsters and canibalize them to make some mean but cheap choppers. Was thinking about doing that myself one day. If you are thrifty and do the work yourself you can build a nice chopper for under 10 grand.

In 2004, the Sportster frame was an 'all new' rubber mount setup. So if you go with a HD frame, it would have to be a 2004 and up Sportster frame.

That would be an awesome motor! Less weight and more power than stock Twin Cams. If you did build a bike that would be a great motor to start with.

Lighter? Yes. More power? Not too sure about that - Harley dyno charts show about 58 hp and 68 lb/ft for a stock 1200 vs. about 60 & 72 for the Twin cam. Not much difference, but not more powerful. Either way, they certainly can be built to make plenty of power. Those engines just look cool to boot!

Not to start an agurment, but, to clarify. After Pipes, Air Cleaner, and Rejet ,my '04 1200 did 81 ft/lb and 79 HP. My Wide Glide does not break 75 on either HP or TQ.

I don't know where H-D Dyno's thier bikes but I work on alot of Big Twins and Sportsers. The Sporters always win until the Big Twins go to 95". I still like my Wide Glide though. The Sporty just can't compete with that ride quality. But, if I was to build a custom bike AD1, I would definately use a Sporty or Buell motor!

cool

You'll get no argument out of me on that...after all, you have the dyno results! I was just looking at stock vs. stock charts in the Screamin' Eagle catalog.
