early sportster

hey folks,

new guy with a question.
how big can you go with aftermarker parts on the early sportster, and retain reliability??? question regards big bore, and stroker kits. bike will be used daily.

You can't bore and stroke an Ironhead like you can an EVO and get 100% reliabitity. The cases of the Ironheads are not near as strong as the EVOs. Lots of cases had the bottom blown outta them by too strong a top end. Sure, lots of guys bored and stroked 'em, but it ain't a good idea to sink lots of money in one when EVOs are getting cheaper every day. Why not build an EVO? Ironhead cylinders are good for about 80 thousandths overbore. I wouldn't bore over about 30 or so because you want to leave something for the next top end job.
