88" Xl

What kind of gains could I expect by putting 88" cylinders and pistons on my Buell? Would probably switch to a carb. at that time. I'm trying to keep initial cost down. I thought later I could do the heads and cam.

Sorry boss, just had to post sumtin.
Look back a few days, we just had a short discussion about increased
displacement XL's.
From what was told, you'd not want to be going and doing nothing like dat.
It would make too much HP and too much Tq.
(might make you have a permanent grin and how would you explain that
to the leos?)

To go to 1450cc you have to have the cases machined, depending on what year Buell you have, some years have better heads, you can get 100 HP pretty easy going that route.
Check out Steve website http://www.gmrperformance.com/
He has some dyno sheets posted.

I agree with 100 hp, and as well as 100 ft/lbs.
Straightfoward combination, that we have done many times over the years.

So you guys are saying without any head work or cams, I could expect some descent gains with just the displacement increase.

Wait for the experts to give you good info.

For what it is worth, I would think you would want to change cams.
If you are going to install the 88" jugs and pistons, then you'd have the
opportunity to set up whatever compression ratio you wanted along
with squish. With this being open book, you'd want to pick a cam that
suited the compression ratio you were building. I do suspect that porting
would be optional if you were not going "all out".

Cams, heads, ignition, exhaust will all be instrurmental in the outcome.

Here's a writeup on a another site detailing this conversion.
