Golden Aspen Ralley in New Mexico
Has anyone out there attended this event and if so do you have any recommendations on rides, places to eat, good biker bars or bad biker bars for that matter? Three of the five I'm riding with have been, I'd like to be able to bring something to the group instead of just being the FNG. Thanks for your input...

Golden Aspen rally
Just got back from a great Rally/Ride. The 40th year for this event in Ruidoso New Mexico. Elevation about 8800 feet....media and cops guessed 45,000 bikes. Roads are SPECTACULAR!!!! Mountainous ride very similar to Idaho and Oregon. usually about the 3rd weekend in September.

Gump,
Apologies for not seeing this before you left for Golden Aspen...was the rally held at the Racetrack this year?
Glad you had a good time; the Fall rally is much better than the
Spring rally. I've been to both many times, since I once lived down the hill in Alamogordo, NM (Holloman AFB). Used to ride the mountains into Cloudcroft and over to Ruidoso and all through Lincoln Nat'l Forest. Lot of Wild West history there.
Haven't been in those parts in 5+ years. Danged Air Force gets in the way of a lot of fun stuff. Prolly why I've yet to make the Sturgis/Black Hills rally...every August I have to make a Far East trip. Last month it was Guam, Seoul S. Korea, and Honolulu.

This originally was call3d the "Aspencade" rally, I believe. Then name rights were bought out and moved to NY. the NM group then changed the name and because of the success pf the fall rally, started the "Aspen Cash" in the spring. The fall ride is much better. I had a house in Alto for several years. Lots of bikes in close quarters, so caution is a key. Good vendors and reps for many bikes. Saw a demo by a BMW rep on ABS brakes there. Very impressive. Used be be housed at the race track, more recently at the civic center by a Jim Colbert Golf course. Imagine the noise in the back swing when the thunder starts

OK...Just got back from a great excursion thru the UP of michigan and down the Mississippi River.......The Ms River is truly a wonder. Haven't made it back to West Texas yet but think I still have time. Just maybe not to get back here, but really that would be OK! I think Terlingua is the first weekend in NOV but that would really bre pushing it. Thanks for asking!
