ArkLaTex area Riding
Anyone know some good riding/site seeing around the Texarkana area?
My home is actually in CenTex (Waco-Temple area) but I am currently working out of Red River.
Try to get home as much as possible, but some weekends can't make it. So thought I would see what's going on in this area.
If anyone has some good rides they would like to share, please let me know.
Thanks

Depends on how far you want to ride, a good day trip would be to head north to Mena, AR, then west on the Talimena Hwy to Talihina, OK, you can also head back to Texarkana via OK 259, its a fun road as well. If you have never done Talimena Hwy, its worth it, and if you have its worth it to do it again and again!
A bit closer but still a likely day trip would be to head down to Jefferson, TX, theres a pretty good scene there as well you can head down via Uncertain TX and check out Caddo Lake.

A smidgen farther North
NightCross,
If your heading from Texas into Oklahoma or Arkansas you should definitely check out this ride thru Ouachita National Forest straddling OK (Hwy 1) / AR (Hwy 88).
Since this one is north of I-40 in Arkansas, if your willing to stay a nite or 2 the "not-to-be-missed ride" is running east out of Fayetteville along SR 23 running thru the Ozark National Forest.
Click here: aka The Pig Trail
You have my word on both of these, they will not disappoint.
We hit the Talimena Pass on the way to every Bike, Blues & Barbeque Rally in the fall; during the rally we head out on Friday & Saturday mornings to ride The Pig Trail.

Hey NightCross, everything posted so far is spot on. These areas are my stomping grounds. Any good paper map will show the "scenic" routes in the Arkansas mountains and I've never found one that disappointed me. Generally we just point the bike in a general direction and ride.

Awsome feed back everyone, Thank you!
I think, now that it was brought up, there was an article in a past IronHorse magazine about the Talimena Hwy.
Looks like I already have a few weekends worth of riding just by asking. Hope to see some of you out there.
Thanks again

..."Generally we just point the bike in a general direction and ride"...
That's always the best route planner IMHO. Let's go do that!
