Sedona, AZ -- One Day Only -- Need Help with Ride Plan

I have one day only in Sedona. I need the best one-day route you guys can plan.

I pick the bike up at 9 AM and will want to be back in Sedona just before dark (early June).

It can be miles, because I am more of a drive-by tourist. No need for stopping in quaint little towns or antique shopping, I wanna see the country side and breath-taking views.

Help me see the best I can for only having one-day.

Thanks,

EXN

P.S. I have a ZUMO 550 so if anyone has it planned out out already and just wants to shoot me a route via email -- we can do that too.

But I am fine building my own from your suggestions.

Oak Creek Canyon should be on the list.

If I were you I would pick up the bike in Sedona and head out the road that goes through Cottonwood up into the mountains to Jerome (one of those quaint little towns) I would stop here for a bite to eat they have a virtual plethora of nice biker friendly eating spots. (it is only about 20 miles from Sedona but up about 5000 feet0. Then go out the main(only road) the first 12 miles have something like 180 curves & some of the most beautiful scenery you could ask for of the valley that most of the Red Rocks are in. Keep going you will end up in Prescott (stop by and see HD WRENCH) and you will run into the superslab go about 10 miles down it and get off and go through the RED ROCKS back into Sedona. Round trip with a couple stops for gas and "refreshments" will take you about 5-6 hours. I made the trip I am talking about from Phoenix which is about an hour away with some bro's a few years back and it took about 10 hours doorstep to doorstep.

Good plan Jake. I did a very similar route when I was there three years ago. I had no idea AZ was so beautiful. WoW

Good for you!!!

I have done this rent & ride there the past 2 times I was in Phoenix / Scottsdale area.
If you are leaving from there, i can suggest going northeast out of Scottsdale through the hills, through Payson and Mormon lake, wind your way to Flagstaff, AND as Steve said - do the Oak Creek Canyon - Rt 89A down to Sedona.

I did. I wanted a more personalized response than just picking off the bones of Sendona Past messages.

The link above would let you see the best of Northern Arizona. Start in Sedona head south to Prescott. From there east to Camp Verde continue to the Rim country. Clints Well has a gas stop. From there north on Forest Rd 3 to Flagstaff. Then back to Sedona via 89A. Trip planner states about 6 hours but would be longer, lots of twisties.

Just left Jerome this morning after the Smoke Out and I got there going in on 89 and 89A from I40East when I left took 89A to Cornville Rd to I17 North to Flagstaff. The road and scenary on
89A was awsome did not take 89 thru Sedona but saw where 89 tied in 2 miles out of Flagstaff. Ate the Haunted Burger at that restruant (name fails me) and the bars were nice as were the people. If you got the time go up to the mine straight past the fire house see Don and walk around if you like old mechanical stuff you wont be dissapointed, he also has some pretty cool restored trucks and autos. I would listen to the others about the roads they are talking about if they are anything like what I saw you wont be dissapointed.

Russ native Houstonian!

ps watch for the photo speed traps they are plainly marked.

I would suggest the same route as FlakeyJake. Awesome scenery & Sedona is a "one of a kind" plethora of Red Rocks with great formations. A must is 89A north to Flagstaff thru the canyon! Ride safe!

Just went up to Flagstaff today via 179 through Sedona/ Oak Creek. Lots of construction in town, but once out of the mess really nice ride.
