Oklahoma ride in April

Planning a ride from W.F., TX to Quartz Mts. State Park in west/central OK for around 5 couples I work with.

Anyone ever been there before? Here's a link:http://www.quartzmountain.org/lodge.html

I know the distance & route I'm in for; just wondering about some good day rides around there. I'm already planning on checking bestmcrides.com.

Thanks in advance,

BTW, does anybody here feel pity for those northerners and all of there winter whining?

Ironic, I'm working on a ride up in Ok for a possible Spring Trip for my club. I that last year they went up and rode around between Fort Smith - Little Rock - Idabel. As for the west side of Ok - I don't know yet.

Well, I looked at Quartz Mountain Resort lodging availabilty this week and no dice. It's hard to believe that there are no rooms two months (April) from now.
We're looking at possibly camping there...however there are no electrical hook-ups. I think there are showers though.
Still haven't found any great rides around that area.

If you're going to Eastern OK, there are some places on the way to Ft Smith, AR you should check out: OK State Rte. 1 Talimena Scenic Drive in the Ouachita Mountains is a state park that is a gorgeous ride into Arkansas across the Oklahoma state border.

Also, US Rte. 271 from Antler, OK to Ft Smith is a great twisty ride.

These are just a few of the trails we blaze every fall on the way to the Bike, Blues & Barbeque Rally in Fayetteville, AR.

You might want to take a trip to the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge near Lawton. They have buffalo and Longhorns running around. Also probably something to see at Fort Sill.

Thanks for the heads up Scrubs - but the bike club voted to go to East Texas for the Spring Trip. Were going to ride around the east part of Texas and parts of Lousiana. A couple of the guys used to live out that direction and know the backroads pretty well. Oh well - at least it is riding!

n7ki,
Appreciate it......we go there all the time to see something besides the great flat plains of Texas. Lawton's about 50 miles from my house that sits almost right in the Red River.
Thanks though.

Similar to TXShooter we may be headed somewhere different cuz of the overnight lodging situation in Altus/Quartz mountains...not much to choose from.

We rode solo to Palo Duro Canyon last May and might take those folks there.
