Charleston bike week?
I am debating whether to go to Myrtle Beach in May or the New Charleston Heritage fest in April. I have heard that the local Leos and alot of business owners are becomming a bit biker unfriendly in Myrtle. Has anyone been there the past few years? Also, anyone have any experience with the Charleston bike week?

I've been for the last 6 or 7 and haven't ever noticed any big change. I'm going again this year. Keep your nose clean and don't show your ass and everything's cool. Screw up by over revving, burn-outs, drag racing, etc., you'll get called down for it. It's the same as any other big rally I've been to. I know I'm not going to Charleston. Did that a couple years ago and it doesn't hold a candle to M.B. IMO. The rally area is pretty small and the city of Charleston is about 15 miles away, if I remember correctly. Myrtle has a whole lot more to do.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, don't have handlebars that put your hands higher than your chest.

If I remember correctly the height limit above the seat is 15 inches in South Carolina.
The Heritage Rally *sucked* last year. $15.00 bucks just to get in the gate. Other than a couple of bike shows it amounts to nothing more than vendors on the fairgrounds - and last year there were a lot fewer vendors than in previous years. The music scene promises to be a bit more interesting this year with Kid Rock, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Cowboy Mouth, and Drive By Truckers.

"just vendors on the fairground" Yep, that was 'bout it! I ain't going back. Myrtle is probably what, the third largest rally in the U.S.? And no entry fee!

Been going to the spring and fall rally in Myrtle for a few years and will keep on going. Been pulled for my apes and side mount tag but let go on both accounts. Seemed as though the officer was fishing for something more than "improper equipment".

Myrtle Beach NOT Charleston
Myrtle Beach most definitely You do have to watch your ass...but then again I park and walk. If you're drinking, let your g/f or o/l drive or call a cab. The ONLY way to go to Charleston is for the music or the Build-Off!!!! This year Billie Lane, his brother Warren, Kendall Johnson and Eddie Trotta are THE big names in the event. I briefly know Kendal Johnson, Billie and Warren Lane and you are able to talk to these guys while their bike's are on display. Try that with O.C.C. But other than that, I'm sorry to say, the Heritage sort of sucks. Unless, of course, you intend to take the family as they claim it is family oriented...boring as hell.

We're going to the Heritage Rally in Charleston this year for the first time - mainly because Kid Rock is playing on Saturday April 8 - you can get tickets for $15 online at www.heritagemotorcyclerally.com.
I've heard that the Heritage Rally is kind of strange and not all that great. If Kid Rock wasn't playing, I'd definitely go to Myrtle Beach. We've gone to the Fall Rally in MB the past 2 years and had a blast - kind of like Biketoberfest but not as big and not as expensive.
You DO have to watch it though if you have apes that are over 15" above the seat - they WILL get you. My husband just got a Night Train with HUGE apes, so he's been asking around about it. Friends of ours who have apes say they just plan on paying for a ticket for it when they go to a rally somewhere. Usually if you show them that you've gotten a ticket already, they'll let you go, but I imagine it depends on how much of a dick the cop wants to be. We don't drink and ride as a general rule, so it's not that big of a deal, but if you've had a few and get pulled for your apes, it will be.

The time I went to the Heritage thing it was pretty much just a one day event at the fairground. Nobody came until Saturday. Maybe it's different now.

I was going to take my newly customized '06 Road Glide to Charleston for the bike show on Friday and Saturday until I realized it was Good Friday and the day before Easter!! Duh! With kids and grandkids that's just not a good time to be gone. I wonder if this rally is always scheduled to end on Easter weekend?

i live across the road from the Charleston rally,
and I won't go but one day.
they had some of the TV build off bikes and builders there, but they seemed REALLY PO'd to be at the po-dunk show.
it was small, and all of the sudden, the promoters took it from a 3 day show to a 9 day show or something, so it's really drawn out & boring.
it's a basically a county fair area, so they rope it off, and you walk around, gawk at vendors, sweat yer buns off, and b*tch about the $$ to get in.
had at least one dyno there.
there's NO WHERE to "cruise" on your bike like the strip in MB.
you basically park, walk into the fair area,
then leave and go ride.

I heard that they were promoting the crap out of the Charleston rally down in Daytona. I thought it was kind of funny that this went to such a long rally so quickly when all it was was a fairground. Somebody's spending some money to promote this thing this year but it'll still suck if they don't have better attractions! This will be our first year going - and we're really only going to see Kid Rock.
Anybody else from around here going to the rally on Saturday, April 8?
