It's called the "Bible belt" for a reason. They just passed a "liquor by the drink" in Asheboro, NC recently. I think the largest area of dry counties is in Southwest NC, right where you were riding. I moved here from Wisconsin, talk about culture shock. It seems to be getting better though.

I rode through those areas last month and here's what I did. If you see a liquor/wine store or gas up and they sell beer ... stock up.

By the time you stop for the night and ask for the nearest beer store, they would direct you to the last town you gassed up.

Regards

RJ

It's occurs all over the south, including MS, AL, LA, TX, AR. You just have to plan ahead.

This should help out. Scroll down to see it broken down by state: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dry_county

No kidding. I first experienced a dry town in southern Utah. I thought the lady was full of it when she told me the town was dry. Blew my mind!

I won't even get into 3.2 beer.

That's a good guideline but it's not completely accurate. For instance, MS is not even on there.

Being a veteran and member of the American Legion, VFW and AMVETS will usually let me find one of these in dry counties to get a beer at the end of the day.
