early October in the Smokies is my favorite place/time to be there. I doubt I'll make it there this year but it's definitely an awesome place to spend a few days riding/vacationing.

We rode the area (Deals Gap, Gatlinburg, etc.) last Oct. 13 - 15, and everything was still green...hoping to go back this year around the same time.

it's hot or miss to pick the peak times but Mid October is a good pick. If not peak you should have good color.

I was in Gatlinburg over the 4th of July this year, the place was a madhouse, but the locals all said it was slow compared to the fall crowd when the colors change, if you stay in Gatlinburg, stay away from the Days INN, real chithole, also, make it a point to see the Ripleys aquarium, that alone was worth the trip for me.

CHILI! it can get down in the 30's that time of year at night up there, but usually warms up pretty quick.

Awww c'mon...I left for Daytona in Feb. It was 29 degrees here in GA...Froze my ass off!...Get up, Leather Up...ride to the pancake house, get some coffee and pancakes, then ride!...it should be AT LEAST 8:30a.m. by the time you get all that done! No seriously, I dont blame you, but you do have the advantage of the time zone, youre an hour behind in Alabama...where are you over there? I lived over there for 10 years...

Clay,

Rode up to Maggie Valley this past Saturday and the weather was perfect. 60's in the am when we left Atl. and in the low/mid 70's up north.
Leaves are just beginning to change and with the fuel issues coming out of Atl, No traffic
The BRP was damp, but after we dropped out of the cloud cover it was warm and dry... I'll tell ya, entering a blind tunnel off a blind curve in the wet is...interesting.
Add some good potholes in random fashion right before your eyes adjust and the thrill factor is better than a e-ticket ride a Disney..

Going back this weekend. We picked up a cabin at Tellico Plains for the weekend and are going to spend some time wandering about the mountains such as tourists should do.
The lady we booked our cabins through said normal weather in the area for this time of year is 50's at night, 70's in the day..

Bummer we'll miss each other by just a few days.. Would have taken you up on the beer and talked tuning..
