I'm stationed in Meridian, MS which is almost right next door to Clarksdale (well its a little bit of a drive). Let me ask my girlfriend about it. She grew up here. I'm from NJ originally, so I dont know much about it, but she might.
Give me until tonight/tomorrow morning and I'll see what she says.

I went down to Clarksdale back in 04. It was the first tour I took on the new Road King. I like blues music and wanted to check out the birth place of delta blues. Abes has good BBQ. Be sure to visit the Delta Blues Museam in Clarksdale. Also, I stoped at a little hole in the wall in Rosedale and had some tomales. I was a little concerned about getting tomain poisoning after eating my tomales but they were good. You should try them. If you have time, I suggest going up to Memphis to Beal street. That too is a great experience. Lots of good riding in that area if you like history and going back in time.
Have Fun, I did and I look forward to going back.

HI!
We´re planning a ride to Arkansas from Montgomery, Al. We plan on stopping in Memphis on the way west and will be passing through Clarksdale on the way back east. I was actually thinking of spending the night in Oxford, seeing that it´s a college town and I figured there may be a little more "life". But then I stumbled over this thread and got to thinking.
What would you recommend:
Oxford or Clarksdale for an overnight?
Thanks
Sponk

Yep I agree!! Stayed there 2 years ago during a Search for Robert Johnson run....the place is great. If you get a chance go down to Indianola and the Club Ebony..BB King owns it now and it's a great bit of history.

Ditto that. Or you could head north to Tunica and visit the casinos.

Stay in Clarksdale at the Shack-Up Inn....you will be pleased...especially if you like the blues...each of the themed shacks have a guitar an amp with them (they did 2 years ago) and they leave a Moon Pie on your pillow when they clean your room.....

A guitar and amp? I´m afraid the other guests of the Shack up Inn would get a severe case of the blues if I were to manhandle an amplified guitar...
Moon Pies sound good though. Actually, I intend to eat BBQ til it comes out my ears every night, so I´ll have that Moon Pie to go please!
Looks like you can´t go wrong either way (Oxford or Clarksdale)
Thanks!

Thanks for all the info, and Sponk, I'm with ya on the bbq. Roughly planning a 2 week solo trip at the end of Sept. to pick up Ark, Lou, Mis, Geo, Ala to add to list. I've heard the blues in Chicago, on Beale St., and St Louis, can't wait.
