Graphic
The two things I was thinking was 1) black helmet with a US flag on the back (waving). Or possibly picture of a playing card (2, deuce of diamonds but with the diamonds in silver instead of red, ...)...
The other thing I was thinking of was a black helmet with a silver flame from the visor, bordered in a red that would match the pinstriping on my bike...
Honestly, I'm not that creative when it comes to things like that. Probably why I never ended up getting a tattoo in my youth, I could never settle on a design that I wanted for all time... If I were to go with something like the flames, I would have to do a lot more research to find something I like.
Thx,
...Jim

If Badger is saying that I should be able to get the helmet painted black for $100 to $150 with possibly a simple graphic, I'm interested in pursuing that further and working out the details...
|
Yep, that's about the average. Even the paint schemes you've already mentioned can fall into that category save for the US flag one. Flags run on average of $220 on up if they cover more than half of the helmet, however, a small one on back however could still keep you in your favored range. The prices I've mentioned do not cover UPS shipping of course. Off forum I can be reached at badgerkustoms@yahoo.com

In regards to the leap sheep picture:
Suddenly it felt like leap frog or something. No need for games, I just paint and work.

No need to forget either. For one its already spelled out right here no matter how many words I choose to type.
As far as helmet painting in general, helmets are priced similar to sheetmetal in some ways. Depending on the chosen graphic and the type of paint to be used prices range all over the charts. Same as sheetmetal really. Preparation is different as far as chip repair or anything of that nature, this particular helmet sounds to be in relatively perfect shape, just in need of some fresh new colors.
Jim's particular paint schemes are simple enough to fit directly in the $100-$150 range even if they include pinstripes. At many other shops they sub out their pinstriping to other places and that would be an added fee. I have no problems laying down lines at all, I actually love it.
So in a nutshell there is the basics of Helmet Painting 101.

Jetblue,
I dig the work you did on your helmet! Those red flames would look awesome on my flat black helmet. What technique did you use?

Hey Jet! What kind of template or a plotter did you use for the text? It looks good. And what sort of technique do you use to do your flames? I'm curious

First I'd have to know what type of helmet it is, skid lid, open face, or full face. Something that basic would probably average $150, but again it depends on the type of helmet. Most ghost graphics are created by using a pearl. Over black there are many combinations that work well and look really good. Its normally best to match it off of your bike. If the whole bike is black, go with a silverized pearl and it will match well with any chrome.
Its still a ghost flame, but in certain angles of light you'll see the pigment in the pearl. Difficult to explain but I think you get the idea.

so many variations of what the cost would be...colorchanging paint? Pearls? Kandies? Marbilizing? (pinstripe no pinstripe) but to give an answer..150 will do plus ups...helmet must be in good shape, no previous graghics to take out...that sound cool...Pm me, see the web site...call if you are interested....we will go all the way if you use me...need some positive input on my work...would take a couple of days...tis the season...

it's a half helmet, no graphics, just black with some scratches on top from putting it on the seat, starting the bike and then the helmet falling off...
i'm gunna throw around the idea some more and see if I can find any pics of flames i like..
and my bike is black w/ orange pin stripes, normal HD colors. see my avatar.
thanks guys.

A half helmet with ghost flames honestly puts you in the $80-$115 price range. And then your question would be:
"Really? How come its less expensive?" And the answer is simple. A half helmet, takes half the time to prep, half the time to paint, and because its only half a helmet most of the work is already cut out for the painter. As long as the scratches are not too deep, you'd be leaning closer to the $80 side for ghost flames over black. If they were a little deep, and it took just a little longer to prep you'd be looking closer to the $115 side.
Which brings us to a very good lesson in painting... surface area. If there is more area for a painter to work on, naturally its going to require more time and it is factored accordingly. Full face helmets have various hardware that must be disassembled first and set aside. Half helmets don't have all the hardware, and are much easier to work on. They also lack the many vent ports of a full face helmet. So extra masking isn't necessary there either. And that is why when quoting a paint job, an idea of surface area is needed, and specific questions are usually asked first.
