Lightbulb Dupont Color Match

Guys, just to share an experience I had this month. I bent the rear fender on my 2005 Road King and needed a little Black Pearl for the repair. So I went to a friends body shop, gave him the year and name of my paint and he mixed it on the spot and nailed the color.

I know everyone says PPG is the only ones who can match Harley colors, so I just wanted to throw this option out there.

The anniversary copper is available from Dupont as well. Perfect match too. Our groups (we aren't a club) paint guy was trying to do a repair on one of our buddies bikes, he tried searching the forums, even the computer eye tried to read the color (close, but not good enough). Anyway, he has a friend who works at a Dupont shop, and on a whim, punched the info in the computer, and up pops a formula, perfect match I might add.

Actually PPG does the OEM colors for HD, but you can have almost any paint mfg do a match...DuPont, SW, etc...it's just that PPG has most of the codes already in their system.

I wasn't aware of this fact, thus the reason I was so surprised when he was able to pull the code up and mix it on the spot. Thanks for the additional information, I'm sure it'll save some folks a lot of trouble.

yes, i use basf here in my shop and i have a ton of harley formulas. most of them are hard to find however. until the past few years the matches were very unorganized. some had a name and no code while some had a code and no name or year. most colors though i get the closest color chip i have to the color and tweak it from there to do a match myself. its usually faster than digging through the computer for a formula. its funny someone metioned that copper color. i just did a match for that 2 days ago. you have to remember, every paint manufacturer uses the same tints and pigments so even if they dont have a formula the color can still be mixed, the formula just has to be made on site at the shop rather than the paint company.
