Paint guns
I thinking of getting a new paint gun. Something better suited for spraying bike parts.
What are your guy's choice of gun for base/clear applications. I have a good primer gun so the new gun doesn't need to handle that also.
I was actually thinking the Iwata LPH-100 might be a good gun with it's narrow spray pattern and compact size. Only problem I see with it is the .4 or .6 cup. Seems a bit small.

I rock the Iwata and LOVE it! Great gun for that application. I also have a LPH-300 which I like very much too! Cup size isn't too small on the 100...you can fit about 8-10 ounces in there no problem. With spraying clear that should about get you 2 passes on a 3 pc set. I like to fill it up about 6-8 ounces at a time, and refill between coats anyhow...
I love the way Iwata atomizes paint! Who you gonna buy the gun from?

I was going to price it through work. we have a paint shop there and might be able to get a decent price on one.
Do you have a link to a place with good prices.
This is the gun I'm thinking about :

There is a guy in CA, that sells on ebay as Stevenson's Custom Paint. His name is Rich Christianson - real good guy and fair prices too! You probably will do better if your work has an acct somewhere...
I think you will love the gun though - it just feels right in your hand...well balanced, I can't say enough about it and I have used it to paint about 100 jobs so far. Had it rebuilt once in 4 years.

Yup that's the gun. And no problem at all - I pretty much only use Iwata for my guns and definitely for my airbrushes! My primer gun is Devilbiss. You can't go wrong with Iwata!

I'm no painter, but a buddy gave me his old Saja and it is nice...the new model was over $600 so I guess they make good stuff?

Sata is a very good gun, but I'm not sure it's worth twice as much as the Iwata.

I probably deserve to paint with the gun that came with my small air compressor LOL. The only thing I've painted with the Sata is my tractor . The price was right though, free!!
I'm just learning; thinking about finding an extra set of skins for my heritage and painting it yellow...

Ya can't beat free! I personally wouldn't cough up the dough for a Sata when my Iwatas work so well, but don't mean I wouldn't use one if given to me!
You should paint your scoot! Tins on ebay all the time...piece a set together and see what happens...what year heritage? 96 here...

Thanks for talking this through guys. I have been toying with doing the paint for my RK project. I'm not trying to do a show bike, just a clean rider. I am a "rattle can" master but the only time I have used real spray guns was in AP school years ago with some aircraft Emron.
Fiberglass, I dove right in, Body work, been sanding and filling for years...paint...not so much. That just may change. What's the worst that could happen

I bought an Iwata lph-80 last winter when I painted my bike. It performed flawlessly. If they improved on it with the 100 it must be a great gun.
Good luck,
Dave

I paint for a living (autobody/paint for 25 yrs.). You can't go wrong with the Iwata LPH 100 for doing bike parts!! Get the 1.4 tip, I have one and love it for doing bikes as well as spot repairs on cars. It rocks, nice even pattern and a perfect size gun for bikes. You can adjust the cup so if you're painting something like a rocker panel on a car it won't starve for paint when shooting up at the panel. Ditto on Stevenson's Custom Paint, great guy to deal with and good deals on spray guns.
