Was it Rustoleum?
Somewhere here there was a thread or two about folks with the blacked out Bobs blacking out even more products with a black after market texture paint that all say holds up almost as well as powder coat. Can anybody fill me in on the paint manufacturer and any long term results? I'm consideing using it to paint a dash but I'm concerned about the occassional gas dribble that may hit it because the filler is in the top middle of the dash. I've spent enough on the old girl this season already.

i used rustoleum on the areas that needed more protection, less gloss, and duplicolor on the areas that needed more gloss, less protetion.

Rick SEM has a good rubberized undercoating, and you can also get a duplicolor one that is paintable as well. My recommendtaion would be to texturize it and clear it with a matte automotive grade (uv protection) clear.

Well, not sure I am an expert...and I always give answers (hopefully they are right)
The thing I have found about the SEM undercoating, and I believe 3M has one too, is that degreaser will take some of it off even after it has dried for a period of time. I think with a matte clear over it, it should be fine.

Since I have a piece that needs to go back to Kirk at Sumax anyway, I'll probably end up just throwing this in for powder. I don't want to dish out any more money on the bike this year, but thats one of those stand out type pieces. I guess I can wait just a tad longer?

Well you guys probably still have snow on the ground up there anyways...the way this summer is going! I just know we're gonna round a corner and it's gonna hit 85-90 and be that way for 2 straight months...
You can't go wrong with powder and will be a more permanent fix.

Hey Pat,
Fortunately no snow, hahaha, although we have had traces of snow left around the edges of the woods in early June in past years. Not uncommon. Lots of cool rainy weather though. I'll take two months of sunny 80's any day!

I have a black denim Fat Bob and had great color match with Rustoleum Universal flat black. If the pics post below you can see the aircleaner cover, rear strut covers, turn signals and battery box band were all painted with it. As far as durability the jury is still out. Pipe and heat shield are off the bike in the pictures - for some reason I seem to be allergic to taking pics when the bike looks it's best.
Here's a link.

Hopefully here is the pics...
