Pin striping???
I went to the state H.O.G. Rally and while walking around spotted a man doing two color stripping. He was getting $150.00 for it and I was tempted. I had the funds in my pocket to do it, but couldn't pull the trigger. I had never considered this as I love the color of my bike and the simplicity of the whole paint job.
I think I made the right decision, what do you think?

A good freind of mine has a Street Glide the same color as yours. I had tried to picture stripes on it before and decided that there is no way that I would do so if it were my bike.
My opinion is that you did the right thing and also were rewarded with some extra cash in your pocket.

Thanks ED, I came closer than I should have to doing it and think I would be a bit sick if I had.

you could get some pinstripe tape and do a simple job yourself to see what a simple set of colored lines would look like.
A good striper can make even a great paint job look better.

Thats just it. He may have been a great stripper but all the jobs he was doing folowed the same basic pattern and when asked him about dark gold and charcoal, he was not enthusiastic. I was sure about it myself, I just flt it I had strips, they would have to be very subtle and tasteful.

To do pinstriping properly IMO,
clear-coat over the base color should be well-prepped & scuffed (scotch pad) to dull finish, pinstripe & bury it in clear...
Then the striping is protected.
Your bike looks fine with NO striping... Save yer $$

Two color stripping? I wouldn't wanna see a man strip even if he was polka dotted! Now a woman stripping, that's another story.

Wow Marsh, you & I must share the same eye for color. When I read your top post starting this thread I started thinking which two colors would work best? I'd arrived at something similar in my mind. Then you typed it...the "Dark Gold & Charcoal" combo would set the base color off really well in contrast; subtle, though, as you said.
Ultimately, I think you did the right thing by resisting temptation. Especially since the striper (def. not stripper!) guy only had one basic design and the job may not represent your taste or vision.
BTW, I dig your tank badge. Is it painted also?

I think if executed properly, the striping could really add to the overall job. I tend to think striping looks better on more 'old school' style bikes, which yours really isn't with the modern logo and all.
As Buddy stated above and I agree, better to have the striping buried under clear, which is not possible at a show...
If you do want work done in the future, talk to that painter of yours in TN as he will be the best person to 'match' what you already have....
And lastly if you did not like the striping done over the clear, it could have been wetsanded off and clear rebuffed...but that would have cost ya more money, so you made the right choice...
