ABS Police Bag Swap

Hey,
I'm considering a pair of stretched saddle bags on my '07 FLHTP with regular latch lids..Has anyone ever removed the ABS cutout tub from the right side bag...Looks like it's just rivets and a gasket??

Thanks

Cheers

I think the inner part of the police saddle bag wont fit in the new stretched bag because it won't be long enough to reach the bottom of the new bag. You might want to look into putting on the extenders on the bottom of your existing bags.

Wouldn't the bottom of the new be the same since it's still using the OEM bottom support .

Thanks

Have you checked with the guys over at BadDad? www.baddad.com

I think their bottoms should be able to fit your lids...

Thanks...I want to replace the police lids...The stretch does not affect the inner side of the bag for swapping the ABS tub over to the new bags..I don't think so?

Cheers

The original saddlebags from HD that come installed on all ABS equiped wheels are a standard bag cut by HD. If you look closely at the inboard side of your bag you will see the cut out and installation. Any bag that fits in the standard saddlebags mount and saddlebag guards should fit just fine. Just remember these bags were made to fit inside of saddlebag guards. These guards are standard on a HD Police model wheels. Just make sure you make a template of the cutout and trace it onto the new saddlebag. Make sure you cut it right maybe shade a bit on the long side incase you need to shave off a bit. A Dremel tool will work just fine just make sure you use new bits and wheels for a nice smooth cut. The tub's will go back in nicely with rivets get a new gasket and some black seam sealer from your local auto pars store. The old gasket is very flimsy and will not withstand reinstalation.

I began the doing my adaption from ABS equipped saddle bag to a standard ABS bag. Its a bit tricky take your time and be patient don't rush your hand on the tool as you can easily go off your traced line. I used a piece of arts and crafts project board and cut a template and traced it carefully with a scribe all. I used a Dremmel tool with cut off wheel, cutting bit hand hacksaw and grinding dremmel bit. The rivets need to be a bit bigger make sure you use a good quality blind rivet and don't over squeeze them.

Hopefully this will provide some guidance.
