Repaint to Black Denim??????
Well, here goes my first NG question.
After doing a search and not finding anything specifically on this question I though I'd ask (especially those who have had the Black Denim color for a while).
What do you think about it?
Do you wish you would have went with a Gloss (read waxable) paint color rather than the Flat of the Black Denim now that you've had it a while?
I have an 05 NT that is Black Pearl, and after 30,000 miles of daily use, it's starting to show the wear and tear (chipping/scratches etc.) and I was thinking about having it repainted in the Black Demin.
Since my bike is a daily rider, I have heard that the Black Demin is more durable and takes less "maintenance".
Any truth to this, or should I just have it repainted the original BP and call it good?
Thank you

NOt sure on the durability...but it will be more forgiving. Gloss clear on dark base shows the most scratches....
What you could have done is to have your tins recleared. You might also be able to get a flat clear applied over your existing color...creating a new denim color. I bet it would look cool - the black pearl is basically a dark charcoal, more than a black anyhow...so it might look more like a very dark pewter denim....

I have the blue denim, it is easy to keep clean looking and doest show too much wear. you can wax it also just not with anything abrasive and it keeps the denim look.

+1 on the idea of having a matte clear applied to your black pearl. I also think that would look cool. that would probably be the lowest cost option too?

You can get the PPG flat clear for about $100 to cover what you need to do. Of course you need someone to squirt it...but it would certainly be cheaper than an entire paint job. Also, I think the flat black pearl would look more 'custom' than a black denim....

Thanks for the feedback Guys!
The Flat Black Pearl does sound interesting, and would be "unique".
If i went that route, any idea what to do about the chips in the paint? Overall, the paint is in good shape, there are just some places that buffing won't take out (paint chipped down past the color coat).
Most could probably be hit with touch-up paint, but the HD dealer wants 35.00 for a "kit" that is about the size of a finger nail polish bottle. Seems kind of high to me.
But I do like the Black Pearl "Denim" idea.
Thanks

You could see if you could get some black pearl through your local PPG dealer. If they would mix you a 1/2 pint, it would probably cost the same amount as that touchup. If you have to buy a paint, you could be looking at $70. You could also see if PPG could match it in their 'shop line' which is inexpensive, but still good stuff. That may not happen, but is another avenue to try...
Ask whomever is going to reclear it for you if they can get some touchup paint for those promblem areas...

Oh, and if you do go for the flat clear, post up some pics - would love to see how it looks!
