Powder coating: Durability/Color
Considering having my fork lowers coated in gloss black.
Does the black stay black? Forever, how long?
I live in Phoenix with my bike sitting out in the sun all day while
I'm at work so it gets more than its fair share of U.V light & general sun exposure. I don't want to do the powder coat if its going to fade or change colors in a few years.
Any experience on this?

Powder coating is normally epoxy paint, and sometimes polyurethane.
It is very scratch- and UV resistent, also because anti-UV additives are in the paint.
I can't see any problem with your project. go for it!

If you don't mind, what's the cost of doing that? My FatBoy is black and I have toyed with the idea of making my front forks black.

I've read good things about http://www.sumax.com/ so I called them. They said they've never had problems w/ my stated concerns.
They charge $185 for FX lowers. I don't know about pricing comparisons, I want the quality though.

You might want to check the HD P&A catalog. Not sure if they have them fro your FX but they have black lowers for my Road King for $250. That isn't that much more and you wouldn't be without your bike as long. You should be able to make the swap yourself in an afternoon.

I have been powdercoating for a couple years now mostly for friends and personal projects. Sumax does great work however $185 is rather pricey. I could do them for $95 plus shipping. I also offer 10% off for new customers since I am just beggining to offer services to the public. The name of my company is JMC Coatings you can do a search on yahoo for my site (I think it is against rules to post here).
Admins: I am not sure if this post violates any rules, if so I apologize.

I agree Sumax's prices are way out of line with what I paid locally as well. I think the last batch of parts I had done was the handlebars, engine guard, and saddlebag guard rails....The cost was $78.00

Anybody think the powdercoat would hold up if I did the (purple) end caps off my rineharts?

I don't see why not, as long as they are prepped right. The baking temp, of the powder, should be higher than the temp reached all the way at the end of the pipe, I would think.
I had my rocker covers, along with the rest of the aluminum covers and my engine guards powdered black; and they had no problem with the engine heat or hot oil running through the guards.

End caps would be fine. You can even coat mufflers/slip ons also. If you need the full exhaust you would need to use a high temp powder. The only problem with high temp powder is lack of colors.

Thanks for the offer Jayman. I found a local company that can do my stuff. They're charging $150 for the lowers & $30-$50 each for some other stuff, but there won't be any shipping charges and only a 1 day turn around.
