Thumbs up Touring/Ultra HD Reach Seat

Just thought I would post a quick mini review of my new 'reach' seat I just put on my '07 Ultra.

This seat did lower me significantly, I think that the 1 1/2 inch measurement given by HD for how much lower you sit on the bike is about right. I am nearly flat footed now (my inseam is only 30"). The nose of the seat feels a lot narrower, which probably is the biggest reason the seat now feels so low to the ground!

It feels as if the 1 1/2 inches forward that HD claims the seat will push you forward is not quite as significant. The seat did not feel much different from the OEM seat as far as my reach to the handlebars. For total comfort I will probably still go for the reduced reach bars HD sells.

In comfort, the seat feels pretty good, about like the stock seat. In appearance, it looks as good as the stock seat.

For the price (after a nice 20% off dealer coupon! Yaay for Waugh HD here in Va!) I don't think you can find a better seat for it's intended purpose. I went thru several seats on my road king so I have been around the block so to speak in the seat market.

Have one on my '06 and its okay. I find the way the seat is cut from the rear to the nose creates less support for my upper thighs than I want. Agree with your assessment that it places you lower, but reach to the bars is not reduced as much as I'd hoped. Eventually, I hope to get a new seat and bars, but in the mean time the Harley seat will work.

Agreed on the need for new bars......in a way I am kinda glad that the seat didnt push me further foward. I think that it would be uncomfortable sitting any further forward.

Have you looked at the Wild One bars for the electra glide? From the given dimensions it looks like they would be better than the HD reach bars

They have pix on the site as well, looks good!

So far I havent been too bothered by a lack of support for my thighs, time will tell tho!

That's what I'm going to put on my Ultra - the Chubby 575s. I hope they aren't too wide for my comfort - I like the width of the stock bars, but they need to be back another inch or two for my comfort.

That's exactly my problem with the stock bars. I get pretty good pains at the top/middle of my back right now with the stockers. Glad to hear that someone else is contemplating the chubbys. I like the fact that Wild One actually had pictures of their bars on their site.....made a believer out of me that their electra bars actually stayed behind the fairing!

I had 16" Wild One chubby apes on my RK, great looking bars and very comfortable.

Thanks for the report. I have the same seat on my new Ultra but have only taken short hops so far since it's garage time up here on the North Coast.

Question Lower Road King rider position

You indicated you had been through several seats on your road king. I just got a 2006 Classic, I need about an inch to be flat footed and was wondering if you could suggest a seat that would bring me down some. The reach seat sounds about right but I was hoping to find a Solo that might do the same thing, then I could throw a pillion on the back for my passenger. I have looked at Mustang but canít find any information about lowing rider position. Any suggestions?

You definitely DO NOT want the Mustang Vintage solo if all you are looking to do is get lower...it actually felt like it was higher than stock. That being said it was very comfortable on long trips.

I did try a Mustang daytripper seat, that would be your ticket 'mustang-wise' to a low slung RK seat. Harley's badlander seat is very similar, but I have yet to hear a positive comment about them....you see tons of em on sale on ebay as well.

I can tell ya that I didn't care for the look of the reach seat on the road king...just didn't look right.

Thanks for the info.

I agree with your comment about the HD reach seat on a Road King):
